Marvin grew up in North Carolina and graduated from N.C. State University (go Wolfpack!) in 1991. In 1994 he graduated from Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta. Later, he obtained a Ph.D. in the History of Christianity from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, VA. Marvin has served congregations in Missouri, North Carolina, and Virginia. Marvin met his wife Laura in college. They were married in 1994, and they are the parents of two young adults. Marvin likes to garden, exercise, read, take walks with Laura, and binge-watch sci-fi, fantasy, and murder mysteries. Marvin's favorite scripture verse is John 15:5, "I am the vine; you are the branches. Abide in me, and you will bear much fruit."
