Support Groups

First Presbyterian is home to a variety of support groups:

Al-Anon:
Al-Anon members share personal experiences with family/friend alcohol addiction and invite others to learn from their stories. Members do not give direction or advice. Rather, they allow others to determine for themselves which lessons they can apply to their own lives. The group believes personal contact is an essential element in the healing process. We invite you to learn more by attending a meeting on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. or Thursday at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. All of Al-Alon's meetings take place in the choir room on the lower level.

Alcoholics Anonymous
AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) is a fellowship of men and women who share their experiences, strength, and hope with each other so that they may solve their common problems and help others recover from alcoholism. The only membership requirement is a desire to recover from alcoholism; no dues or fees are required. AA is not affiliated with any sect, denomination, political organization, or any other institution. The group does not wish to engage in controversy nor does it endorse or oppose any cause. AA’s only purpose is to assist others in achieving and maintaining sobriety. You are invited to First Presbyterian’s AA group on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.

Nurses Recovery Group
NRG (Nurses Recovery Group) is a local organization that assists nurses in their recovery from drug addiction. The group’s goal is to help fellow nurses end addiction and maintain a healthy lifestyle. NRG meets Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. in the choir room on the lower level and invites all those interested to attend.

Overeaters Anonymous
OA (Overeaters Anonymous) offers a program of recovery from compulsive eating using the group’s twelve steps and twelve traditions. Meetings and group tools provide a fellowship of experience, strength, and hope where members respect one another’s anonymity. OA charges no dues or fees; it is self-supporting through member contributions.

OA is not only about weight loss or gain, or obesity or diets. It addresses one’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well being. It is not a religious organization and does not promote any particular diet. OA members differ in many ways, but are united by a common disease and solution. The group practices unity through diversity and welcomes all who would like to stop eating compulsively. Meetings are held on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. in the choir room. All those interested are welcome to attend.
